Can you believe it? Our second event of 2021 is almost here already! After a whirlwind opener, we’re back for more just two weeks later, with three more epic rounds of action on the cards.
We have a trio of classic races in Britain, Italy and Belgium coming up and we can’t wait to get back on track! Here’s everything you need to know as we resume the championship.
You don’t need to look far back to remember what happened in Event 1, but if you’ve forgotten, we’ve got you covered! Race 1 saw Lucas Blakeley take top honours in the first race in Bahrain, after taking his and Aston Martin Cognizant F1 Esports Team’s very first victory in the series.
Nicolas Longuet grabbed pole, but was beaten to Turn 1 by Blakeley, and despite a sensational late-race battle between the pair, it was the man in green who took the win.
If Round 1 was breathless, we practically stopped breathing altogether for Round 2, capping off perhaps the most explosive day of F1 Esports action in history! After qualifying a lowly 14th, reigning champion Jarno Opmeer attempted a masterstroke in China. He started on Intermediate tyres after seeing the track was wet, with all those around him on full wet tyres.
Once the pit stops shuffled the pack, Opmeer was miles ahead, but not for long. The track dried even more, and Fabrizio Donoso was the first to don the slick tyres, undercutting Opmeer who followed suit a lap later. The two then battled fiercely along Shanghai’s 1.4km back straight, before Opmeer wrestled back the win.
The final race of Event 1 took us to Spielberg in Austria, and Opmeer once again took full advantage of tricky conditioning, controlling the race from the front for a second consecutive win.
The first three races leave us with Opmeer on top of the table, ahead of Blakeley in second, and then the ultra-impressive Bari Boroumand, who after only getting one race in 2020, has already smashed all expectations this season, with a pole position, a podium, and points in every race so far. Usual suspects Frede Rasmussen, Alvaro Carreton, Nicolas Longuet, Fabrizio Donozo and Marcel Kiefer take the next five spots, with Dani Moreno and David Tonizza completing the top 10.
In the team standings, it’s Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Esports Team on top, ahead of Aston Martin in second, and reigning champions Red Bull Racing Esports in third. Just two teams (Scuderia AlphaTauri Esports and Uralkali Haas F1 Esports) are yet to score, and eight different drivers have taken a podium.

This trio of races made up our third event of 2020, and there was action aplenty from the drop! Silverstone heralded the first win for Nicolas Longuet after an incredible fight with Frede Rasmussen, Dani Moreno and Marcel Kiefer during the final two laps of the race.
Spa followed suit with a last-lap extravaganza of its own, with Dani Bereznay pouncing on Marcel Kiefer’s second place at the final corner of the race, after patiently waiting behind the leading Red Bull pair all race long. Bereznay won the 2018 and 2019 races around Spa, so will be hoping for more of the same this year.
The trip to Monza was tale of home glory, as FDA Esports’ David Tonizza took his second win of the season in fine style, winning ahead of Jarno Opmeer and a charging Brendon Leigh. All three of our champions to date, sharing the podium. What’s not to love?!
In the past three seasons, Dani Bereznay has won twice around Spa with a second place, taken a win in Italy in 2019, and taken two third places in the last two years around Silverstone. That makes it a massively competitive round for him, so expect to see him representing McLaren Shadow!
Brendon Leigh and David Tonizza are team mates for 2021, and they share the first three F1 Esports Series driver titles between them. However, Italy 2020 was the only time to date they have shared the podium.
Only four drivers have scored in every race so far: Jarno Opmeer, Bari Boroumand, Lucas Blakeley, and Dani Moreno.
