Brendon Leigh Strikes First at F1 Esports Grand Final
November 24, 2017
British driver Brendon Leigh claimed victory in Race 1 at the 2017 F1 Esports Grand Final, leading all the way in the race at Canada’s Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, after qualifying on pole for the first of the weekend’s three championship events in Abu Dhabi.
There was drama at the start as Germany’s Sven Zurner moved up smartly from P3 to P2, and he was the driver that pushed Leigh the hardest. The gap between them remained tight until shortly after the pit stops, with the pair almost coming together during a heart-stopping moment on Lap 9.
Over the second half of the race Leigh began to pull away for what was, in the end, a comfortable victory. Tonight he finds himself top of the overall standings on 25 points.
Leigh’s rival for driver of the day arguably came in the form of Nicolo Fioroni, with the Italian claiming a P5 finish after starting P14 on the grid.
It leaves us all set for a thrilling final day tomorrow, which will feature the championship races from Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and Yas Marina Circuit that will decide the overall 2017 F1 Esports Series champion.
