Mercedes announce launch of Mercedes-AMG Petronas Esports team

August 7, 2018

Reigning F1 world champions Mercedes have confirmed the launch of their official F1 Esports team, which will join eight other official F1 Esports teams to compete in the 2018 F1 Esports Pro Series later this year.

The headline signing for Mercedes is the 2017 F1 Esports Series champion, Brendon Leigh, who will once again be the man to beat as he looks to retain his title in 2018. Leigh is joined on the newly-formed team by fellow Brit, Harry Jacks, who is the winner of numerous Esports titles in recent seasons. Patryk Krutyi, who was the wildcard entry for the 2017 F1 Esports Series Grand Final and who has won four domestic Esports racing titles in his native Poland, and Dani Bereznay, from Hungary, complete the four-man line up. Bereznay was selected by Mercedes at the inaugural F1 Esports Series Pro Draft in July.

During the build-up to the start of the Pro Series season, the four drivers will compete against each other for a maximum of three active spots on the team. The competition will be fierce as they look to make the grade and prove themselves worthy of selection.

Mercedes-AMG Petronas Esports confirmed that the drivers would be based at the team’s HQ in Brackley over the coming weeks, as they prepare for the Pro Series Season in the autumn. The drivers will have access to state-of-the-art training facilities at Brackley, which are currently being purpose-built. This will give the four star gamers the best possible preparation as they get ready to do battle with the best Esports racers in the world for the chance to be crowned the 2018 F1 Esports Series world champion.
