Watch – Behind The Scenes At Mercedes AMG Petronas Esports
September 7, 2018
Recruiting world champions is nothing new for Mercedes. Their unexpected signing of world champion Lewis Hamilton back in 2013 certainly turned heads.
It’s fair to say that the same was true when they acquired the services of inaugural F1 Esports champion Brendon Leigh earlier in 2018, but the young Brit is right at home in Brackley – and he’s not alone.
Mercedes AMG Petronas Esports selected Dani Bereznay at the first ever F1 Esports Pro Draft in July, laying the foundation for an exceptionally strong team with pure driving talent at its core. Brendon Leigh soon followed, and highly-rated league racer Harry Jacks completes the team’s trio of virtual racers.
“With Mercedes being world champions [in F1], there’s a lot of expectation for us to make them world champions in the virtual world as well,” confesses Leigh, well aware of the opportunity before him and his peers.
However, with teamwork, training, and relentless practice, they stand a great chance of success. Mercedes are in the process of finishing a custom-built eSports facility at their team headquarters in Brackley, showing just how committed they are to becoming the best as they enter a new ‘arena’ of motorsport. And the drivers are eating together, training together in the gym and driving against each other on a regular basis, strengthening the bond between them in the process.
“It’s great to see everyone working towards one single objective,” says Bereznay of the team spirit at Mercedes. “It’s great to see that kind of commitment and motivation!”
Keep an eye on this rapid trio when the F1 Esports Pro Series gets underway later in 2018…
